The NOC is the document a consulate reads to answer one question: does this person have a job to come back to? A letter that names your position, your salary, your approved leave dates and your return to work does that job. A vague one does not. Below are editable templates for employees, business owners, sponsored spouses and parents of travelling children, plus the formatting rules that get letters rejected in the UAE.
Checked on 13 September 2026. These templates are unofficial. They are not approved or endorsed by any embassy, and no guarantee is given that any consulate will accept them. Always follow your destination’s published checklist, which overrides anything here.

What an NOC has to prove
A no objection certificate is short, but it carries a lot of weight in a UAE application. It establishes four things at once:
- You are employed — a real job, with a title and a start date
- You are paid — a salary the consulate can weigh against your trip
- Your absence is approved — specific leave dates, not a vague permission
- You are expected back — the sentence that speaks directly to the officer’s real question
That last point is the one most letters miss. A letter confirming employment but saying nothing about your return has answered three questions out of four.

Formatting rules that decide acceptance
- Company letterhead only. Never plain paper. The letterhead should carry the company’s address, contact details and, where applicable, trade licence details.
- Address it to the specific consulate where the checklist asks for that, for example “The Embassy of Portugal, Abu Dhabi”. Use “To Whom It May Concern” only where no addressee is specified.
- Date it within the last 30 days. Older letters are commonly rejected.
- Wet signature and company stamp. In ink, by hand. A scanned or pasted signature is not the same thing, and this is the most frequent reason a letter is sent back.
- Name the signatory and their position beneath the signature.
- Match your passport exactly. Name spelling, passport number, no initials where your passport has full names.
- Use definite language. “Will travel”, not “may be travelling”. Conditional wording creates doubt.
- Match your dates to your flight booking and your application form.
Never write or alter this letter yourself. It must come from your employer. Producing a letter your company did not issue is document fraud, and the consequences last far longer than a refused holiday.

Template 4: sponsored spouse or dependent
Where your residence visa is sponsored by a spouse or family member, the consulate needs their consent and their financial backing. This letter comes from the sponsor, not the company, so it goes on plain paper with the sponsor’s details and is signed by hand. Some consulates require it to be notarised — check the checklist.

Template 5: parental consent for a child
Where a child travels with only one parent, or without either, the consulate normally requires consent from the parent who is not travelling. This letter usually has to be notarised or legalised, and the requirement is strict.

Edit them on your own computer, fill in your details, and send to HR. Includes a pre-submission checklist.

How to ask HR for it
Make it easy for them and you will get it faster and in better shape.
- Ask early. Some companies take a week, and the letter must still be within 30 days at submission. Time it so it is recent but not expired.
- Give them the details in writing — your passport name and number, Emirates ID, exact travel dates, destination, and the consulate’s full name and city.
- Say what the consulate requires, particularly the addressee, salary and return date.
- Ask for a wet-signed, stamped original. Request two copies while you are at it.
- Check it before you leave the office. Passport number, spelling, dates, stamp, signature. A mistake found at HR takes a minute; the same mistake at the VFS counter costs an appointment.
